Count the Stars

Count the Stars – Week 1
Step Outside the Tent
Summary
In this session, we explore God’s invitation to Abraham to step outside his tent and lift his eyes. It’s a moment of perspective, promise, and identity — learning to see ourselves and our future through the lens of who God is, not just what we can manage.
Key Scripture
Genesis 15:5 (NLT)
Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”
In-Video Discussion Questions
(These appear on screen during the video)
- When have you felt God challenging or inviting you toward something more?
- What helps you step out of your “tent” and see yourself through God’s eyes?
End-of-Video Group Discussion
(Choose the questions that best serve your group — you don’t need to cover them all)
- Looking at Abraham’s story, what stands out to you about how God invites people into growth or change?
- Why do you think perspective is such a big part of faith — not just what we believe, but how we see?
- What tends to shape people’s sense of identity more strongly — God’s promises or lived experience? Why do you think that is?
- As a group, what might it look like to help one another “step outside the tent” more often?
Prayer
Pray for one another for clarity, courage, and trust as you respond to God’s invitations.Ask the Holy Spirit to help each person grow in confidence in who they are in Christ and in the future God is shaping.
Count the Stars – Week 2
The Ring
Summary
This session explores inheritance as something received, not earned. Through the story of the two sons, we reflect on authority, identity, and the subtle ways familiarity, comparison, or resentment can keep us from fully living as sons and daughters of God.
Key Scripture
Romans 8:17 (NLT)
And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
In-Video Discussion Questions
(These appear on screen during the video)
- Where do you notice an “older brother” response showing up in your own life?
- How might your everyday life look different if you lived as a co-heir with Christ?
End-of-Video Group Discussion
(Choose the questions that best serve your group — you don’t need to cover them all)
- In the story of the two sons, what do you notice about how both sons misunderstand their place in the family?
- Why do you think it’s possible to be “in the house” but still not enjoy the benefits of belonging?
- How does familiarity — being around church, faith, or Scripture for a long time — sometimes dull expectation or gratitude?
- What helps people move from knowing about inheritance to actually living from it?
Prayer
Thank God for the inheritance we’ve received through Jesus. Pray for freedom from comparison, resentment, or spiritual familiarity, and for renewed confidence to live as sons and daughters who trust the Father’s generosity.
Count the Stars – Week 3
The Sandals
Summary
This week focuses on movement, multiplication and mission — the idea that inheritance doesn’t stop with us but flows through us. We explore how blessing multiplies when it’s shared and how maturity often looks like learning to steward what God has entrusted to us.
Key Scripture
Isaiah 52:7 (NLT)
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!
In-Video Discussion Questions
(These appear on screen during the video)
- Can you share a time when blessing flowed through you — or toward you — and had impact?
End-of-Video Group Discussion
(Choose the questions that best serve your group — you don’t need to cover them all)
- “Inheritance grows as it’s given away.” How does this statement challenge the way we usually think about faith or success?
- How do you see the connection between maturity and responsibility in the way God entrusts things to people?
- In everyday life, what does it look like for faith to naturally move outward rather than stay private?
Prayer
Ask God to help you recognise where blessing is already flowing in and through your lives.
Pray for wisdom, courage, and generosity to steward what you’ve been given in ways that bring life to others.
Count the Stars – Week 4
The Party
Summary
The final session centers on joy as a core expression of faith. Rather than seeing celebration as shallow or optional, we’re invited to see joy as a response to grace, restoration, and the goodness of God.
Key Scripture
Nehemiah 8:10 (NLT)
“Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
In-Video Discussion Questions
(These appear on screen during the video)
- What experiences or practices genuinely fill you with deep joy?
- In this season, what do you sense you’re being invited to bring to the celebration?
End-of-Video Group Discussion
(Choose the questions that best serve your group — you don’t need to cover them all)
- Why do you think joy and celebration can sometimes feel uncomfortable or secondary in faith spaces?
- What’s the difference between joy rooted in circumstances and joy rooted in identity or belonging?
- How does celebration — in Scripture and in life — function as a form of resistance to fear, scarcity, or despair?
- What might change in a community if joy was treated as something we practise, not just something we feel?
Prayer
Thank God for the joy that comes from belonging to Him.
Pray that your group would grow in joy, gratitude, and freedom, and that celebration would become a natural response to what God is doing.
