Session 1: Approaching Pathway
As we begin this journey on the Pathway we will look at how God has made Himself known to us through the Bible.
Group Discussion
1. Consider the question “Where are you?” How would you answer this question?
2. Consider your own life, can you see how God has taken the initiative, made himself known or been found by you? Share your story.
3. What does this tell you about the character of God?
Session 2: The Christ of Christianity
We are going to look at the central character of Christianity, the person of Jesus Christ, His teaching, and the claims He made about Himself.
Group Discussion
1. What claim stood out to you/resonated with you? Why?
2. After this session, what stands out to you about who Jesus is or how has your perspective of him changed?
3. Consider the explanation of sin from claim 4. Does this help you to understand the concept of sin and why it is a problem in our lives?
4. Do you think you are ready or are you already on a journey of discovering who Jesus is for yourself?
Session 3: The Gospel
We are going to focus on why Jesus is the hero of the Bible story, and why we call this story ‘the good news’.
Group Discussion
1. What comes to mind when you consider that we are not random accidents but a part of Gods design?
2. How does it make you feel knowing that God chose you and created you to have relationship with Him?
3. Does having an understanding of mans fall help you understand the problem of suffering?
4. What comes to mind as you consider that Jesus gave his life for you in your place to pay for your penalty of sin?
5. Was there something new that you discovered or saw tonight in understanding the cross?
6. Would you like someone to pray that prayer starting a lifelong journey of faith following Jesus?
Session 4: Responding to the Good News
We are going to look at how we respond to all that Christ has done on our behalf.
Group Discussion
1. How does it affect you knowing that being a Christian is a response to Gods love and grace rather and a striving to earn His love?
2. Share what impacts you as you consider the journey of guilt to grace to gratitude? Are there any of the grace statements on page 90 that stand out to you? Why?
3. As you consider the gospel responses of love for the word, desire to walk with Jesus and with others
4. what comes to mind? Have you experienced these changes in your own life? Explain
Session 5: False Claims of Christianity
We are going to look at how NOT to respond to the message of Christ.
Group Discussion
1. Why does sin matter? What comes to mind when you consider that the Christian life is incompatible with ongoing deliberate life of sin?
2. In the context of sin, what do you think is the difference between conviction and condemnation?
3. What does it look like personally to know that Christians will still face challenges with sin but turn to God in repentance rather than run from God in guilt?
Session 6: The Process of Transformation
We are going to look at how God transforms our lives through a loving relationship of grace and truth.
Group Discussion
1. What does it look like to know that the Christian faith is about a lifelong process of transformation becoming more like Christ?
2. How do we live a life that invites transformation?
3. Discuss Romans 12 on page 138 – what does renewing our minds mean? How does this happen?
4. How do we stay focused on Jesus in a world full of distraction?
5. Reflecting on the past 5 weeks what has stood out to you the most.
6. What is your next step on the discipleship pathway?
Note to leaders: This is a good time to discuss water baptism as a response to the Gospel and next step
