Psalm 127:3 - “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”
Proverbs 22:6 - “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
One of the most important things we will do at Equippers is disciple our children and young people to a living, personal faith in Jesus Christ.
The Bible has a lot to say about children - how they are a blessing and a heritage from the Lord and that we should teach them and love them as Jesus did.
Whether you have your own children, or you have been blessed to be part of a child’s life in another form, we all have the opportunity to be a voice and a constant in a child’s life. There are children in our church who need someone to pray for them. There are kids down the street no one is praying for.
When it comes to our own children (no matter their age), how do we make peace with the limits of what we can and cannot protect them from? What do we do with the risky and scary feelings of fear that can make a parent lose sleep?
We must fill that gap with the only thing that bridges the space between our limitations and our trust in God - prayer.
Today, pray some intentional prayers over your own children and youth, and those in our church and community. Prophesy. Speak words of life over their lives. Bring every concern, dream, and desire about them to God in fervent, persistent prayer.
Young people today are bombarded with every temptation known to man, and the enemy is seeking to destroy their character. We need to be praying that our children and young people will be examples to the world in their speech, lives, love, faith and purity. Ask for more great role models for them, particularly among their own peers.
Throughout the Bible, God has not shied away from commissioning and empowering young believers. There are examples in Samuel, David, Josiah and more. In each story, God spoke to these young believers and empowered them at a young age; and in each instance they took ownership of their faith, sought the Lord, and followed His instructions. In doing so, God used each of them mightily, regardless of their age. God is not afraid to entrust young people with the message of the Gospel and empower them with the mission of advancing His kingdom. Let’s pray that God will use our kids in this way!
Take a moment and consider the needs you know of amongst children, young people and families in your community and in our nation. Spend some time praying into this.
Ask God to keep our children and young people healthy and to help them to thrive. That they would learn to hear and follow His voice. That He would help us do all we can to protect them, disciple them, and give them the start in life they deserve.
Here are some great promises to pray today:
Proverbs 14:25 - “Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.”
Isaiah 54:13 – “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.”
